Will I really find the right opportunity for me if I just try my hands on anything that comes my way?
It was two long years after university with a Bachelor's Degree in logistics management and still no job.Josh*, A Truck Driver
So, I decided to train and become a truck driver.
I've been driving for 10yrs now.
And I've worked for big manufacturers and two shipping companies since I started driving.
It's a good job and it pays well, despite the long-distance driving and always being away from home.
It puts food on the table and pays the bills.
Of course, I won't be driving forever.
To be honest, it was always in my plans to do this for a few more years and then, move on to something else.
But that plan has changed.
I've got chronic back pains from driving those long hours every day. I can't drive like before.
So, once again I need to find something new.
And it seems like my prayers have been answered.
I met an old friend a few weeks ago. And she told me about this business opportunity that she wants us to do together.
It something to do with logistics. Which means I can finally use my degree and experience for something.
She thinks it's a good opportunity and maybe, it could even change my fortune – well, we’ll see.
I feel like if I try hard enough, maybe I could even turn this opportunity into something big for me and my family.

Over more than 6 billion people wake up every morning wishing for a change or something different.
Sometimes, some people do get lucky and find the change they’ve been looking for.
But sadly, many people don’t.
Well, that’s Lady Luck for you – she rarely appears and only give to a few.
So usually, it takes more than just trying and sheer will to find good fortunes.
Yes, people do say, “there’s no harm in trying”
However, some things do require more than just trying in order to find them.
“opportunities are not clothes“
Many believe that, if you try and engage in any business opportunity that you see around, eventually, you’ll find a good opportunity.
Well, that’s wrong on different levels.
First off, we don’t “try” or half-ass business opportunities.
It’s either you’re fully in or out.
Plus, it’s a huge waste of money and time doing that.
Opportunities are not items like clothes that you can just try on and see which one looks good.
Besides, how do you even find a good opportunity, when you don’t even know what you’re looking for?
Seriously, you wouldn’t even see a good opportunity, even when it’s standing right in front of you or slaps you in the face.
“you can only seize the right ones“
Trying your hands on opportunities won’t do you any good.
That’s because, it’s not a matter of how many you try or even how hard you try.
But rather, how much you believe in an opportunity and what you’re willing to do to seize it.
In other words, if an opportunity is not right for you, then it won’t matter how hard you try – you still won’t be able to fully seize it.
First, you would lack the motivation, discipline, determination and persistence needed to fully seize it.
Even normal things like risks, rejection, problems, doubts and mistakes, would either scare you away or drive you crazy – or both.
And, you would easily focus on the wrong things and make excuses for not being able to step up.
Look, ‘trying’ is mainly how most people get stuck in failing businesses; and why many people fail at opportunities and then, make excuses like, “Oh, I tried but it was never for me”.
Not that they didn’t do their best.
Nope.
It’s simply because, they just jump on anything that comes their way – and then, hope for the best.
“take Josh, for example“
On the surface, it looks like he has a really good business opportunity on his hands.
But in reality, he doesn’t.
Not because Josh isn’t capable. No.
Josh has the skills and some experience to pursue the opportunity.
But then, Josh has no dream of owning a business.
All he cares about right now, is putting food on the table – which is a big red flag.
He doesn’t even know the life he wants for himself – he’s still searching.
On top of all that, he doesn’t even believe in the opportunity. It’s only his partner who does.
“to catch the good ones“
“Hopes and wishes don’t make money. It takes action and doing the right things.” – Robert Irvine, Chef, Serial Entrepreneur, Tv Host and Author.
Finding something that rare and unique requires work – the right work.
You can’t just keep trying anything; hoping for Lady Luck to throw something in way.
Especially when the right work can also help you make your own luck every day.
So, if you really want to find good opportunities, then here’s how.
First off, know:
- who you are,
- what excites you
- and the life you want to live.
And make sure owning a business is part of that dream life.
Two, find the right business for you.
Lastly, prepare yourself for the business you want to do.
Preparation opens you up to lots of opportunities and helps you to narrow down on the good ones.
Remember, it’s not just luck. It’s also by preparing for what you want.
