Is there any better way to find the right business for me?
"I never want to live the life my parents were dealt.Vivian*
Working constantly and never enjoyed life.
So, it was always in my head to own a business or do something that'll not make work rule my life.
Then, I met Fred and his delicious coconut oil.
We became business partners and a year later, our small oil factory was up and running.
Which costs me all my savings and loans from two banks, by the way.
I won't lie. There was lots of work from the start.
So, I helped on the weekends and whenever I could take a leave from my day job.
Eventually, business started to pick up, so I left that job and began working full-time in the business.
Fred is in charge of operations and I do the books, marketing and other stuff.
I now work more than what I'm used to.
I'm busy all through the week and spend most weekends travelling to meet with coconut farmers and other suppliers.
People keep telling me things will get easier but I don't see it.
I don't enjoy this anymore. It's demanding and consumes all of my time."

"I got my love for furniture from my grandpa.Ferguson*
He grew up working in his father's (my great grandpa's) carpentry shop.
And my great-grandpa used to work for an English Furniture Company during the colonial times.
That's why my furniture is a little different from most Ghanaian furniture.
I watched Grandpa a lot and what we do takes lots of attention to detail.
Sadly, I haven't been able to that lately.
After two long years since I opened the store, people are now loving my work and orders keep pouring in.
So, I hired seven apprentices to help me out.
But the only problem is, I don't like giving my work to anyone and
I struggle to manage the apprentices.
The shop is always in chaos and I can see the quality of my work dropping.
I've sacked four of the apprentices but still nothing.
It looks like I'd be better off doing this alone.
I just have to cut down the orders that I receive."

"Coming up with the idea to open this bar wasn't that difficult.Simon*
I've worked in the beer industry for than 12+ years with two of the biggest beer companies in the country.
Not just beer. I also know all kinds of alcohol from working with bartenders over the years.
We opened a year ago and everything was fine.
Well, until recently when I heard our customers aren't happy about me.
They complained to my wife that I'm always rude to them.
But why wouldn't I be rude.
Those customers are impolite, loud, noisy and they keep messing up my bar.
Every time I try talking to them, it ends up in a quarrel.
My wife has advised me to stay away whenever the bar is full.
But I can't.
I'm the only one in that bar who knows the drinks and with the bartending skills."

Finding the right business can be a bit stressful.
One day you think you have the perfect business and the next day, you’d be screaming at yourself, “why the hell did I get into this business?”
Take guys like Vivian, Simon and Ferguson for instance.
Vivian, unlike most people, could even afford to start a manufacturing business. But she doesn’t enjoy what she does.
Ferguson is passionate but he’s a poor leader and manager.
And then, there’s Simon. Simon has skills but he lacks the ability to engage directly with customers.
“a lot goes into picking the perfect outfit for a date“
Now, there are lots of factors that goes into finding the right business.
It’s just like picking the perfect outfit for a dinner date.
You can’t make your decision based on only one thing.
It can’t only be about your personal skills or business expertise or interests or even your ability to raise the needed capital.
Nope.
You would have to consider everything.
“still not enough“
That’s not to say, after you do that you’ll easily find success in business.
Well, I’m sorry.
That too is also not enough.
And it’s all because of one simple reason.
All businesses are difficult to succeed in – whether it’s the right business or not.
Each business comes with its own sets of challenges.
Challenges that’ll require you to grow into who you need to be in order to succeed in that business.
Challenges that’ll require commitment and sacrifice.
Challenges that’ll require you to know who you are and what you want, so can push past your limits in order to succeed.
That’s why choosing the right business is more than just finding something that you could do.
It’s rather about finding a business that matches:
- who you are
- what you like to do,
- and what you’re capable of doing.
“a better way“
So, YES.
There’s a better way to find the right business for you – and even help you to go on and succeed.
And here’s how it starts.
First step, know who you are and the life you want to live before you even decide to go into business.
Once you know the life you want to live, then it’ll become easier to properly consider all the factors, pick the right opportunities and eventually, pick a business that:
- you’re willing to struggle for or make commitment for.
- and will help you achieve your life goal.
Besides, what’s the essence of owning a business, if it can’t help give you the freedom to live the life you want?
Great piece of insight sir . Thank you
